A santim is one hundredth of a birr. Nobody gets rich from one — but a cooperative of people who each set aside a few santim becomes a source of credit for all of them.

Governance

Who makes the decisions

Like every saving and credit cooperative, Santim is run by its members through elected bodies.

General assemblyAll members. Approves the bylaws, the yearly plan, the accounts and the dividend.
Board of directorsElected by members. Sets policy and interest rates, and oversees management.
Loan committeeReviews and approves loan applications under the loan policy.
Control committeeChecks that money and records are handled correctly, and reports to members.
